The Fall of Troy
The Aeneid is a Latin epic poem, written by Virgil from
29 to 19 BCE, that tells the legendary story of Aeneas, a Trojan who traveled
to Italy, where he became the ancestor of the Romans.
As Aeneas tells the fall of troy, we are going to be
moved because it’s one of the part of the story that would enlists our sympathy
on the side of suffering, loneliness, and defeat. Aeneas as the leader, he needs
to consider things for his comrades. Aeneas even sacrificed his own happiness
to fulfill his and his people’s destiny. As they eventually lands on the coast
of Africa they are welcomed by Dido, the queen of Carthage who falls in love
with Aeneas. Despite of his love for the queen, he continued on his journey and
left Dido. While Aeneas is telling us
his journey, I couldn’t leave aside the thought that he felt lonely for leaving
Dido. But for him and his comrades, one must sacrifice their own happiness for
the happiness of others.

Victory through Defeat and Loss
“Never stop just because you fell defeated. The journey
to the other side is
attainable only after great suffering.”
After all the hardships and troubles that Aeneas came
up with on his journey it will show a long history of defeat and loss. He
finally wins—but he won at a terrible cost. We can relate it also in real life.
In a way that in everything that we do there’s something cost that’s waiting
for us. As Aeneas found the city that will fulfill his and his people’s
destiny, he met these terrible losses such as: loss of his home, wife, country,
men, father and Dido and others. As Aeneas wins, he won at a terrible cost.
Sometimes these losses and terrible costs make a person
stronger and determined than before. Just like being afraid of what would
happen to them. Being afraid of losing something or someone important to each
and everyone would help us think of a better way not to let things happen as
the way it happened the last time.
